"Water: A Zero Sum Game" takes viewers high into the Rocky Mountain snowpack as researchers dig snow pits to explore the source of our water supply. 'The snowpack acts as a storage system, or bank account," snow hydrologist Mark Williams explains, "it releases water slowly into the watershed as it melts." The snowpack also holds critical information about pollution, climate change, and ground water storage. Williams also uses an under-snow-lab, the only one of its kind in the world to trace the path of water as it melts at the bottom or the snowpack. Where our water comes from and how that supply will be impacted as the climate changes are central to the work high in the mountains outside our back doors.
