These books are written for children ages 8-11 that takes them on an illustrative journey from the snow high in the mountains to water in their faucet tap, introducing them to the distinctive wildlife, ecosystems, and diverse uses of water along the way. My Water Comes from the San Juan Mountains is also available in Spanish. Learn More
"Beetles, Water & Climate" from the Western Water Assessment
Beetles, Water & Climate (BWC) is a multi-purpose web resource intended for researchers, forest managers, water managers, public officials, and other professionals who are investigating and responding to impacts of the Mountain Pine Beetle (MPB) infestation and other bark beetle infestations in the mid-Rocky Mountain region (Colorado, Wyoming, Utah). These Science Discovery workshops engage teams composed of 1 teacher and 5 students (grades 5-8) in a full day of hands-on, inquiry-based science. This year's workshop, Earth System Science: Exploring Change in the Critical Zone, focuses on the complex relationships between geology, soils, climate, ice, snow, wildfires and Colorado's water supply. Western Water Assessment identifies regional vulnerability to climate change, and develops information, products and processes to assist water-resource decision makers throughout the intermountain west. http://wwa.colorado.edu/ |
The Getches-Wiklinson Center for Natural Resources, Energy, and the Environment is dedicated to serving the people of the American West, the nation, and the world through creative, interdisciplinary research, bold, inclusive teaching, and innovative problem solving in order to further true sustainability for our lands, waters, and environment. http://www.colorado.edu/law/research/gwc |
The Center of the American West takes as its mission the creation of forums for the respectful exchange of ideas and perspectives in the pursuit of solutions to the region's difficulties. Projects address such critical issues as energy, the interior, mining, water, land use and more. http://centerwest.org |

The Institute of Arctic and Alpine Research (INSTAAR) develops scientific knowledge of physical and biochemical environmental processes at local, regional and global scales, and applies this knowledge to improve society's awareness and understanding of natural and anthropogenic (human caused) environmental change. The world's high-altitude and high-latitude regions are the Institute's traditional focus due to their sensitivity to environmental change. http://instaar.colorado.edu/index.html |
The Department of Atmospheric and Oceanic Sciences (ATOC) is an interdisciplinary program that provides an educational and research environment to examine the dynamical, physical, and chemical processes that occur in the atmosphere and the ocean. A major theme is the establishment of a physical basis for understanding, observing, and modeling climate and global change. http://paos.colorado.edu |
Science Discovery is an experience-based, educational outreach program that stimulates scientific interest, understanding, and literacy among Colorado's youth, teachers, and families. http://sciencediscovery.colorado.edu/ |

The Colorado Water & Energy Research Center (CWERC) works to study the ways that water and energy resources often connect and sometimes collide. CWERC seeks to engage the general public and policy makers with their work, serving as a neutral clearinghouse of scientifically-based information on even the most contentious “energy-water nexus” debates. |
